What's in your Arsenal?
You know it's kind of crazy, when I was a kid my mom could hardly get me to take anything — not even if I had a headache. Now I take at the least 14 pills a day, plus the extras I might have to take to relieve my symptoms, etc. and I am always looking to incorporate more.
Things I take daily:
- Biotin 10,000mcg with Keratin 100mg, once a day in the A.M.
- I started taking Biotin when my hair started falling out and after approximately two weeks it stopped the hair loss, I also read that a dose of 300mg (I take 10mg) is helpful in Progressive MS.
- Magnesium 250mg, once in the P.M.
- My legs had been killing me (bringing me to the point of tears) and I figured why not, so far so good. Helps with spasticity, spasms, tremors, etc.
- Green Tea Extract with Hoodia 315mg/25mg, once in the A.M.
- Omega 3-6-9 800mg/380mg/300mg, twice a day, once in the A.M. and once in the P.M.
- Paxil (Paroxetine) 10mg, once in the A.M.
- Yep, its my anti-crazy go to! LOL
- Tecfidera (Dimethyl Fumarate) 240mg, twice daily, once in the A.M. and once in the P.M.
- My choice DMD.
- Turmeric Curcumin 500mg, once in the A.M.
- Supposed to alleviate pain and inflammation.
- Vitamin A 8000IU, once daily in the P.M.
- Vitamin B12 1500mcg, twice a day, once in the A.M. and once in the P.M.
- Vitamin D3 5000IU, two (10,000IU) daily in the A.M.
- I have a Vitamin D deficiency.
- Vitamin E 400IU, once daily in the A.M.
Things I take as needed:
- Aspirin 81mg.
- Used occasionally to relieve the flushing that my DMD can sometimes cause.
- Dramamine/Meclizine 50mg.
- Very helpful to reduce dizziness and vertigo.
- Ibuprofen 400mg-800mg.
- My current choice of pain management.
- Imodium (Loperamide) 2mg-4mg.
- Pepto-Bismol Caplets (Bismuth Subsalicylate) 262mg-524mg. (not pictured)
Things I have considered/considering:
- CoQ10
- Supposedly helps with fatigue, etc.
- Marijuana
- If only it were legal in my state for any purpose (medical or recreational) but unfortunately it is not. It is supposed to help spasticity and manage pain, etc.
- Probiotic
Update 08/01/2017:
I no longer take Paxil and I have started taking...
- Zanaflex 4mg, prescribed every 8hrs (as needed).
- I couldn't stand the spasticity in my legs any longer and I was losing sleep because of it.
- Melatonin 3mg, fast dissolve.
- I can't sleep without it.
Update 09/15/2018:
I was prescribed Gabapentin in May to help with nerve pain, unfortunately I had an adverse reaction to it, so in August I began taking...
- Elavil 50mg, prescribed 1 tablet at bedtime.
- So far it has been amazing -- Nerve pain has gone from 0 to 80% controlled. The only con is that it makes my fatigue worse.
