Raising MS awareness is Important!
Before I was diagnosed with RRMS, I knew nothing about it and had no idea how many people were affected by MS. Since being diagnosed I have joined multiple online support groups that have given me tons of insight, good and bad.
What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. National MS Society
Here are some facts:
- There are more than 2.3 million people who have MS worldwide.
- MS in Women vs. Men is 2:1.
- MS is NOT Contagious!
- MS is NOT a death sentence.
- MS is considered a snowflake disease because it affects everyone differently.
- There are 4 different types: CIS, RRMS, PPMS, SPMS. (For more Info)
- There is no cure but there are disease modifying drugs that can aid in slowing the progression.
- Having MS doesn't mean you will end up in a wheelchair.
- Not ALL disabilities are visible -- just because you can't see anything wrong with someone does not mean there is nothing wrong.
